The 2007 State Quarter Finalists Klein Collins Tigers won't be making a return trip to Round Rock this year. The Tigers were defeated in the bottom of the
seventh ( 8-7 ) from a bloop single off the bat of Morgan Mickan scoring the winning run for the Georgetown Eagles. Senior LHP Sam Stafford Started for the
Tigers and Senior RHP Austin Dicharry was tagged with the tough luck loss. Andrew Massey picked up the Win for the Eagles. Georgetown will now face the Klien
Bearkats in the Region II quarter finals.
Klein's Patrick Stanley picked up the win and Matthew Purke picked up the save in the Bearkats 9-8 victory over the Belton Tigers on Saturday. Klein's Jason Mohn had two home runs and (5) RBI on the day. The Bearkats move on the face the Georgetown Eagles in the Region II quarter finals.
The Westside Wolves sent the defending State Champions Cy-Fair Bobcats home with a (3-1) defeat. Corey Maltz held the Bobcats in check and picked up the win. Taylor Wall picked up the save for the Wolves. Westside will now meet the Spring Branch Memorial Mustangs who piled up (13) runs on the Cy-Creek Cougars Saturday. Memorial got better than average pitching from Baron Davis and home runs from Demario Thibodeaux, M.P. Cokinos, and Michael Ratterree in the (13-3) victory.
The Bellaire Cardinals traveled to Katy High School to face off with the Tigers where they had to win two games to advance. In the first game on Saturday, Matt Anderson picked up the (7-6) victory while Kyle Chaskin picked up the save. Trace Knoblauch & Kyle Chaskin smacked long balls for Bellaire. In the second game of the afternoon the Cardinals exploded for (12) runs and freshman, Toller Boardman held the Tigers to just (4) runs in the (12-4) complete game victory. Will McCaleb jacked a home run for the Cardinals. Bellaire will now face their district nemesis, Lamar Redskins in the Region III quarter finals.
The Brazoswood Bucs' Ben Coram hit a walk-off home run, one of his two of the day, to defeat the Pasadena Memorial Mavericks (6-5) in the decisive game of their area round series. Tyler Green gutted out a tough victory on the mound and also homered for the Bucs. Brazoswood will now face H5AB #1 Alvin Yellow-Jackets in the Region III quarter finals.
Brett Marshall and the Ross Sterling Rangers held off a hard charging Clements Rangers team with a (4-3) victory in game two sweeping the area round series and will now face the District 23-5A Champions, Elkins Knights who defeated LaPorte on Saturday night. Elkins freshman LHP, Matt Johnson got the start for the Knights going (3.6IP) only surrendering one run to the Bulldogs. Junior LHP Kyle Rogers took the Knights the rest of the way picking up the victory surrendering only one run in the (3-2) victory. Senior Travis Crow knocked in the GWRBI with a hard single in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded.
In TAPPS 5A State Championship action Saturday, the Houston Christian Mustangs picked up their second State Championship defeating Dallas 1st Baptist (7-5) at Mary Hardin Baylor University. The Mustangs pounded out (13) hits on the day and Nino Leyja cracked a home run in the contest. Will Vaughn picked up the victory on the mound and Scott Lyon picked up the save for the Mustangs who finished their season at 33-8-1.
In 4A action on Saturday, the Montgomery Bears completed a two game sweep of the Waltrip Rams with a (17-5) run rule affair. Will McFarland picked up the victory for the Bears scattering four hits. Chance Cartwright hit the only home run of the game for Montgomery. The Bears will now face District foe, 18-4A Champion Brenham Cubs in the Region III quarter finals.
Bay City ended Barbers Hill's season with a (5-4) victory on Saturday at Manvel. The Blackcats will now face District 23-4A Champion Friendswood in the Region III quarter finals.
