What a TASO-Houston boycott could mean to Houston area High School Sports
The TASO-Houston Chapter is the largest in the state of Texas boasting over 350 member offidials. If that organization were to choose not to wotk UIL Varsity contests it would seem nearly impossible for the UIL, or any organization for that matter, to successfuly provide trained and experienced officials to take their place. This could make for a very poor emvitronment for our schoolastic sports here in the Houston area and throughout the state of Texas.
1. First and foremost, a serious shortage of qualified officials in all sports at the varsity level.
2. With that shortage comes substandard officiating of varsity competitions. And with substandard officiating comes an unpleasant environment for schoolastic sports.
3. Escalating costs of officiating: As a scramble would ensue to replace such a huge chapter of qualified officials, costs could skyrocket if the same standards TASO requires are to be met by the new Officials Program. TASO-Houston's programs are in place and is industry leading in merit.
4. Scheduling nightmare: A scheduling nightmare might just be in store as TASO's Houston chapter has the most efficient well oiled scheduling offered to a group of its size.
