USA Baseball has announced their 2009 National Team (Collegiate) Roster and three Former Houston 5A standouts have made the team. The 2009 Team will play in two International Friendship series in North Carolina against the Canadian National Team and the Guatemalan National Team and then pack up and head to Japan to play in the 37th Annual USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series and the World Baseball Challenge in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada.
Rick Hague, (Klein Collins-2007), the slick fielding sophomore infielder batted .319 for Rice in 2009 collecting 81 hits, with 17-2B/9HR/57RBI. Hague finished the season 3rd in HR and 5th in AVG for The Owls.
Nick Pepitone, (Katy-2007), a huge 6'6" sophomore, RHP, for the Tulane Green Wave posted a 3.26 ERA w/38.2IP/42K/16BB/9SV/22AP in a valuable relief roll for the Wave. Nick joins two of his teammates from Tulane also named to the USA Baseball National Team.
Jeremy Schaffer, (Bellaire-2008), just finished his freshman year at Tulane posted a fantastic first year line of .311 w/40R/66H/8-2B/2-3B/14HR/56RBI/19BB/35K and caught 57 games for Tulane in 2009. The former Cardinal backstop has hit the ground running and now finds himself in very select company on the USA National Team.
