Surprises Anyone | ||
Remember sports fans that this selection is SUPPOSED to be based on
just district competition ?????? HA---HA ... Watch some of the notes
that will accompany the athletes chosen for all-district...Stats should be for 14--15 games from what I remember... ( RR --Leander playoff game for 3rd-4th place should also count... ) Are the coaches still the only one that can nominate a player from his own
team??????????? Is the coach not allowed to vote for his own players ???
Some districts in the past have had this rule in place.....My only Nomination as coach of the year is Tom Collins---at times 4 soph. /fresh. started for the
Tigers.. Good job district16--5A on a good season ---well represented in the playoffs.. .................................................................... -------------------------- Wish we could of hand some teams go deeper, but
that's life......

Tom Collins or Terry King Coach of the year? | ||
|
Both are excellent choices and I would be satisfied with either pick. Both coaches had tough seasons (multiple) previously and came back to
make the playoffs. Any other worthy nominations? Of course, Cochran is always a perennial contender as he almost made the playoffs with so little talent on his
team.
On the season and the playoffs, it was predictable from the start that 16-5A would not do much. Pitching was lacking and that's it! Very competitive and a lot of young stars in the making. |

Well that is true that SP started like 4 to 5 freshman and soph but Heldman was probably their best pitcher and came up big in the last game against us.

That is the format for voting and nominating in every district that I know of

Wasn't Heldman the starting pitcher against Klein Collins? Sounded like he didn't have his "A" game since they scored 3 in the first and 5 in
the second. I was surprised that he started over Tillotson since I thought Tillotson had the stronger finish IMO.

Well what I dont understand is the selections for some of the all district teams. Reed played a total of 4 games in the outfield and made a few costly errors,
Eady had more past balls than any catcher in the district, while Ratcliff no-hit the Tigers and only gets a big woo hoo with "honorable mention"
which in fact isn't very honorable because there were many kids from each school that werent near deserving that are also on the list....like some seniors
that just played because they were seniors.

If you are going to slam one of your own at least get your facts in order. Reed played outfield in 9 of 14 district games. He misjudged 2 line drive shots
from Elander and Loter (errors) in the first RR game. He also lost a high fly ball during twilight vs Westwood (WW score keeper gave the kid a hit, our
scorekeeper gave an E ). So my question is this, who has played a whole season without error (mental or actual).
All-district selections are selected by the coaches from the district (coaches can not vote for their own) and it is based on the whole District season not just one game. No one would be all-district using your critiria. I know of 3-4 errors (actual and mental) a Stoney Point player made in one game vs McNeil...he was a unanimous pick 1st team. Hitting is a large contributor in the all-district selection and Reed had a fairly good season at the plate as did the Stoney Point player. Eady: I only saw 2 games and he hit very well in both and I do not remember many passed balls (catcher's fault). I do remember quite a few wild pitches (pitcher's fault) though...We won the 2nd game on one of them. Eady's reputation as a catcher and ball player around the district was very good. How do you know he had more pass balls than anyone? Was it wild pitches or pass balls? There is a big difference. Ratcliff - Pitched in 5 district games. Using your critiera he doesn't make it. However, I believe the no-hitter gets him Honorable Mention, as that is a great accomplishment in 16 5A baseball. I also think if he had not gotten hurt he may have made all-district. Being hurt definately affected his pitching and hitting in the last few games he played in. I tried to get his arm loose before the games and it was like trying to stretch a piano wire. Nuff said, I Probably should have just left this alone but it was fun writing it. if you want to discuss futher come see me at the Banquet tomorrow night. No problem signing my name, Benton Reed |

Well I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I am just an old baseball parents that calls them like i see them. Sorry if i offended you. I did see your sun go
back to back against whoever so like you said, hitting does have a lot to do with it. If he continues to grow he will be a great pitcher someday. As far as
Eady from westwood goes, i have discussed with some of the parents over there and it would shock you to hear what i have. But no biggy. Good look Lions in next
years playoff race.

As a player for the Lions i would like to say that no matter what people say on here, its not all factual. We, as players, see things that other parents,
coaches, and fans don't see and we pick up on things from time to time. Like that fact that Reed was a big part of many of our wins this year both
offensively and defensively. Yeah..he made errors but the were covered up by his hitting.
Benton- don't let lionfan get under your skin big guy. We all know that Michael's back to back bombs against Stony Point or WW or whoever it was was HUGE. Plus his good outtings on the mound. See you at the banquet tonight man. GC #7 |

Congratulations to the All District selections! I personally think that defense should pull more weight than it does in these selections, after all
"Defense Wins Championships" and big games right? The "big" hitters get the "big" hype, but what about the infielder that has an
almost perfect fielding percentage, or a catcher that saves runs every game by throwouts to second (or first or third) or blocking errant curve balls with
runners on third, or the center fielder that catches everything from left center to right center and in front and behind, and makes it look easy not flashy -
but they only have a 200 batting average? How many opponent runs did they truly defend, and how many game outcomes were as different due to their defense as
the homerun by their teammate? or in the case of some very good top players at Leander, are not in the coach's favor? We all know that this process will
never be truly objective - whether a coach can vote for his own or not, he DEFINITELY gets his word in about it. And yes, Honorable Mention IS an honor, but
players and parents will never stop comparing themselves and their own to others, living without the 1st team or 2nd team honors, simply knowing the list
objectively should be different. What a top accomplishment for all of the great players, and it is about time Leander is represented in the All-District
selections! Go Lions!
